Lucy Fur in London

Lucy Fur: London Hotel Shoot 2016

This Summer, my friend (and wonderful model) Lucy Fur and I decamped to a hotel in London for a bit of a boudoiry shoot. Something I’d been wanting to do for a while was to take a proper flyer-to shoot in a space that I hadn’t seen before the shoot. Of course, if you’re going to do something like this, it’s important that you are working with a model who you trust, and just as importantly, who trusts you…

Super important that you’re both very comfortable in each others company, and willing to go with the flow. To be honest, I wouldn’t even think about doing a shoot like this without a partner in crime like Lucy to collaborate with. I knew that collaborating with Lucy would guarantee me great results regardless of how great or mediocre the shooting space was.

Rather than looking for a standard hotel room, I wanted to find somewhere a bit more quirky, and boutiquey. A search for quirky hotels in London eventually brought up the hotel we ended up using. Each room of the hotel is in a kind of Latin, Cuban, South American vibe, without being overly twee. I was a little apprehensive when we arrived, of course-I hadn’t seen the room in advance, and whilst I had an idea of the style of the rooms, it was going to be a lottery to see what we got, in terms of space, light, furniture, fittings, etc..

In the end, the space was pretty great. The hotel turned out to be a great shooting location, and I hope I’ll be able to get back there to shoot again at some point. The natural light wasn’t amazing, and the very blue walls of the room, whilst very distinctive on the images, caused a few problems with bouncy light, but I’d like to think that we managed just fine to get some great images.

Certainly, I’m very proud of what we achieved, and this kind of experimentation is something which I’d love to try again sometime soon.
